I do like Doug does. And I like the "competition" that he mentioned. It started back in StrampWants days. Some of us can tell you exactly where we're at in the list. Last week, I started on page 27. I'm towards the top of page 16 as of today. My store started as number 662. It is now number 392 on the over all list.
Sometimes a couple of us will flip-flop back and forth as we add more items to our stores. It's fun, and it's good for everyone. More stamps gets listed; more things for people to buy. And don't think we don't know what everyone prices their stuff at either. Plenty of spying going on too.
I remember when Paul Cook was interested in doing something like my U-Pick listing (now verboten here). He opted to list one at a time. He's never looked back, now at what, over 456k listings and over 130k feedback?
So how many booklet Stamps should I list That are cut at right. Cut at bottom Cut at left or cut at bottom and left. How about cut at bottom and rght. Some booklet issues are cut at top And right and left Combned, Then we have town cancels, Dated cancels. Return cancels ETC>>>>> everystamp is eunique even if you don't collect them. I have sold 300 copies of the same Scotts #. Remember everyone collects different things. StampsByPaulCook LLC.
I Justb filled a 200 Pluss item order from a collector that collects all of the position items from booklets. I believe there were only 20 Scotts Cat #'s.
Yes Doug I examined your listings and tried that. Now I have found everyone collects different things. I actually have a person in Europe that only wants modern cancels on older stamps.
If I gave an example of what the different people collect, and you listed 1 of each on a given Scotts #. You would have 50-60 of that Cat #. Lets just do the Grades 70,75,80,85,90,95,98, should you be so lucky 100. Now lets add the J to all those. Total 16 different copies. StampsByPaulCook LLC
Yes, I was complimenting Paul and speaking in admiration. I think the point of all this discussion, really, is that people should post what they want to post how they want to post, and that others should, really, just mind their own business and focus on what works for them and quit pushing their opinions on others, right? Let the buyer's decide and frequent the stores that speak to them. Can I get a harrumph?
I have a 99% acuracy and filled a 1500 item order ( no duplication ) with 100 % acuracy. That was 1 month after I started listing this way. I have 10,000 # 301 that I have not listed. I think 10,000 #1580;s is too many. OK I admit over the top and a bit much. Now I only list .50 and up items. Will try to get to 50 of any issue and stay there. OOPs 300 #332's at .15 (45.00 ). sold in one sale ( Never got feedback ). What I'm saying is you never Know. Those that complain can't do it. I am more than willing to teach how to earn $5 an hour.
DEJAVUCOLLECTIBLES That is about all I have ever been able to make. I can sort and identify 2-3,000 a day then I can list 1,000 items a day then the next day pull 500 items. At .04-.20 it makes about $5.00 an hour. I think I need a real Job. When you get up to 500,000 items it kind of starts it's own momentum, and you stay busy. Also what I need to do is more diversity. I am only trying to get items I don't have listed now. The reasons for listing cheap items is to keep the interest in the hobby. More stamps are under $1 than over. If collections can not be filled people lose interest. Also beginners buying dime stamps become the same ones buying $100 stamps latter. Paul
If buyers could block certain sellers during specific category searches, then the buyer would be able to avoid the huge quantity of some items being listed in the category, and make the hunt less frustrating.
To Paul Cook-- If that is your secret of how to earn $5.00 an hour, I think you do have a "real" job. It sounds like about as much work any human being could stand. I remember when my mother got a job in an office after having been an elementary school teacher, she wondered why everyone was packing up and leaving. They told her it was the end of the work day, and she was amazed how little energy she had expended in a day compared to teaching. And it paid better.
Why do so many of you professional stamp dealers spend so much time and brain power to earn a nickel from some fanatic who cares which side of a stamp is straight?
Note we had recently added the One Match Per Country / Catalog Number option to the Stores page as well (in addition to general browsing and searching). So you can easily browse a Store, in Country / Catalog Number order, and automatically group all of a Seller's items by Country / Catalog Number together. For example:
Robert, some would ask why some fanatic would spend so much time and money collecting stamps at all. It's like I tell my children, "If you can think of it, someone in the world is collecting it". I hope you don't take this the wrong way, you seem like a really nice guy. https://www.hipstamp.com/store/wasatch-stamps
I would call this flooding the market and it generally isn't good policy for prices. Why post more than one or a few varieties. Also I don't even bother scrolling through a store which has too much junk to wade through. Drain the swamp!
Well I think I will only list what you collect and give up $1,000.00 a month in sales. Mark can wait for his money. God knows it would be easier. OOp's just got anouther $20 - 60 item order. Can't stop till I fill that one. Filling 3-400 stamps a day does get old. Paul
Then People that buy 200 # 332's (an order I recently filled) is a perfectly sane individual???? People that put little pieces of paper in a book are sane???? Point being everyone collects differently. As a Dealer it is a responsibility to cater to all types of collectors. If dealers only do what they want this hobby will die. Carol Chase was thought to be a Nut when he started Plating the 1851 3 cent issue. He acquired over 2 million copies. At the time a .05 cent stamp. Paul
I have to ask why is it anyone's business what someone else chooses to sell? I sell a lot, mostly on other sites or to other dealers (and not all stamps).. But I enjoy sitting down once in awhile and going through vast multiples of cheap 19th century stamps for centering, fancy cancels, color shades, flyspecks, etc. I might buy 50 or 100 of a common stamps and I have found over the years there is usually one stamp out of those I ordered that I can resell quickly and get all my money back, sometimes several times over.
Why is it any concern of anyone else that I do this?? If you don't like the way a dealer lists things than don't buy from them. But I don't understand why anyone thinks they have a right to tell someone how to go about making a living or participating in a hobby.
I could go on but fear that my point will be lost on those who need it the most..
True, and due to that I am dropping out of this conversation. As what started with me being complimented for my efforts has turned into criticism of my actions However I do need to let everyone Know. PAYPAL IS HAVING A MELT DOWN. They have Been double charging for debit and credit card purchases. They take the charged amount at the time of sale. Then 3 days later when the transaction clears, They take it again. Go over all of your transactions and you will notice it does not add up. Paul
This seams to only affect certain transactions. A few $10-20 Transactions over the last 2 months that never hit my Radar. Kind of weird. They are reviewing my accounts today. They already put back $40. If anyone finds this happened to them, Stay calm and call Paypal. They will resolve it. Getting mad will not help. Some kind of a problem with the way the stores process the Transactions. Paul
O.K. I thought about all that was said in this Forum. I also know the work involved. I will now shoot for 1,000,000 Listings. After my wife died almost 2 years ago I lost my focus. I'M BACK now we will start either pulling 500 items a day, or listing 1,000 a day. I currently have over 300,000 items not even being offered on this site. I will concentrate on these items. Paul
