Not TakenSearch is not working Correctly in my Store

Search is not working correctly. I would hope this is not just my shop that was reopened recently?

I closed my shop again --> until i see it is fixed as a normal search works. Normal search works off the description that describes the lot. This is basic programming that a 10 year old knows.

This site will collapse very quickly if this is not fixed. if you type in words in the lot description the lot is supposed to show up in search. This was not happening to my items in my store. Why is this? How can you expect a search that does not do this to provide a correct query? I certainly hope this is a bug relating to my store only as i buy and now i am wondering if there is tons of items on this site youy did not show me in my search to purchase. none of the items in my store were showing in search with a normal search words that describe my items and words that are in the titles of my lots except for the word "revenue"

this is extremely unprofessional.

  • I have researched this and yes it appears to be only happening in my store as the items were sent over from the Ebay sync the past few days. why would i want to pay and not be fully included in search?
  • All item from all stores are fully included in searches. When searching, if you enter a Country & Catalog Number - we'll automatically search the Country and Catalog Number associated with the listing. For items imported from ebay or bidStart this information will generally be automatically associated with your listing. If that's not the case, we can review your specific listings.

If you would like to re-open your store, and you find that Country and Catalog Number information is missing from any of your listings - just send click on Contact Us in the footer and we'll review your listings.
  • zero of my listings were included

the country was not included as they are listed in speciality philately on Ebay and they have no catalog number as they are cinderella and revenue items

the only listing they are included in are for some reason is the top echelon of revenue.

if i try searching under cinderella.. nothing country nothing.. any combo of search words that are written in the item title.. nothing

I suspect you have a lot of people not included in search here. my items were imported from Ebay they are of course included in the ebay seacrh fully. if i nbter in japan revenue on ebay they are there... if i do the same here.. they are not included. in fact if i enter in anything from the title .. it is not working.. nothing

I will reopen the store in a bit and I will give you examples unless it is fixed now. Thanks for the reply and i do hope it is fixed now. This site could be a nice place but the search needs to work correctly. If we have to edit each listing we import from Ebay to get search to work.. this will not work for most
  • So a question before i reopen?

"If you would like to re-open your store, and you find that Country and Catalog Number information is missing from any of your listings - just send click on Contact Us in the footer and we'll review your listings."

if this info is not there then will search work? if the main listing on ebay is not a country and there is no catalog number listed? if this is the case.. you have one strange search here.
  • and why would even a simple search request of a combo of words actually from the item title give zero results?
  • If, as a buyer, you enter a search for Country and Catalog Number, we will return results for items matching those Country and Catalog Numbers. If you only search by Country, we will return results for that Country based on the Country as set for the item listing. Any other searches, or additions to Country and Catalog Number will search the title of the item.

A simple search of words from the title (as long as those words are not the Country or Catalog Number - see above) would search the titles of your listings. If you have active listings and for some reason this is not the case - we can review your listings in more detail.

  • I hope i misunderstood your above comment that the search can not include the country as most certainly the buyer would include the country in a title search. example japan revenue, japan cinderella, japan anything <- this includes the country... so are you saying idf the country is not marked this this would not give any results for the unmarked country lot? even if the first word in the title is Japan?
  • and is this the same case if their is no catalog # listed on the lot?
  • I also now assume that browse will not search the title and use that in the country sub categories.
  • I reopen the store and listed a few items on ebay - they synced fine to here

    example: https://www.hipstamp.com/listing/japan-mint-scouting-1950s-cinderella-stamp-44-20/9690191

using search scouting is coming up now a is scouting cinderella but as soon as i add Japan to either search term.. it gives nothing. I do think you stated this already to be the case :-) this item also has an Ebay "region tab" of Japan

so in conclusion.. i think if the item is not in an ebay country specific category it will be not seen on your site. that would include areas like cinderellas, speciality philately, ww collections, other, and the numerous categories in stamps that are not country specific. This is a shame that the search is set up this way. people are importing from ebay to your site and then the items are not searchable if a buyer happen to add the name of any country on the planet to the search. as soon as the name is added the search gives a zero find. things are slow enough to not to have to deal with this and I do mean for sellers and this really makes false search results for buyers. I generally buy more than i sell but now i am sure that items i search for are less that 50% represented by your search. Revenues Cinderellas Telegraphs
  • I did remove the listings i had and list more that fit in the scheme of country specific format- works great now.
  • I have thousands of listings that are mint. After many years I just now noticed that as I list as (MINT NH) many list as (MNH) only.

My thousands of listings do not come up in search for MNH and every one who searches for MNH do not see my listings, and those that might search by Mint NH may not see many other listings.

Did not know that I was under such limitations....
  • My items are not showing up in search as well. When you search under United States for WS11, several stamps show up but not mine. I have a premium store and none of my items show up when you search for them. Sent a note in yesterday, have not heard anything yet. Mark, I know you guys are busy and I appreciate what you're doing, but please, even an acknowledgement at this time that you are working on the problem would suffice. My lots were imported thru the ebay sync. They have several issues (some of the ebay info came over with them) and I would like to remove that - can that be done with a batch edit on all the lots, or do I have to do that manually on each lot?? Could the sync be the issue? Anyone else have any ideas? Let's all try to make this site better for us.
  • George, you currently have 157 items listed with us - all of which show up in searches accordingly.

It does not look like you currently have a United States #WS11 listed with us - which is why it would not come up in searches. It doesn't look like you currently have the Ebay Sync enabled, which is why you're likely missing items. Go to Members Area > Selling > Seller Tools > Ebay Sync, enable it, your items will come over, and you should be fine.
  • Mark. if you check my site, you'll see that I do have a WS11 plate block listed, I also have several ducks listed and when you do a search for any rw## nothing comes up. I do the search both under my store as well as under the main listing without signing on and still no result. Please tell me how you are searching differently that me. As for disconnecting my sync, I do not want any more of my ebay oots on your site because of the problem In fact I have not listed any more on ebay and intend on listing on your site several hundred plate blocks (positions and numbers) in the next few days. In fact my question to you would be - what is the best way to do that with the 3 cent plates without taking a few hundred different scans. Does it make sense to post a listing for a plate such a Scott 1009 for instance with an upper right plate number scan and then in the description just state a different position and number and signify the difference as well under the scan like (this is a stock scan - you will receive plate #XXXXX, upper right position" Any thoughts??
  • Mark, I think I know whats going on. When the sync brought over my listings, it brought them over as my first line "united states war savings" next line is "Ws11" Could that be the issue. If that's the case, I need to change almost all of my listings, because the ducks are in that same order -US FEDERAL DUCK next line RwXX, George
  • I'll take a look at this over the weekend, and follow-up with you here.

    Hi George,

    Thanks for the additional information.

HipStamp was built from the ground-up for stamp collectors, and one of they key differentiators we have is our search engine - which is built to understand Country and Catalog Number searches - which is how the overwhelming majority of our buyers search for items. In order to provide accurate and relevant searches to our members, we have a specific dedicated "Country" and "Catalog Number" field for Sellers to fill out when they create their listings.

If you're importing items from an external website, such as ebay, we do out best to automatically detect the Country and Catalog Number based upon the title of your listing. However, if you're using a format which is quite different than most other sellers, we may not be able to automatically detect this information.

In your specific case, the easiest way to address this would be to change your titles on ebay. Instead of writing:

    US FEDERAL DUCK Rw10

    write:

    US #RW10 Federal Duck
    or
    US Scott #RW10 Federal Duck
    or even:
    US FEDERAL DUCK #Rw10

Either would work fine, and we'll be able to automatically extract the Country and Catalog Number from your listing. Again, just to note, when listing directly on HipStamp this would not be an issue because you, as the Seller, set the Country and Catalog Number explicitly.
  • I thought that might be the issue. The sync is not 100% true. That might have been the issue with BidStart as well. Now that it has been explained, I understand it much better. However, instead of changing the eBay description, especially since I want the two stores to run as separate entities, what would be the easiest way to change my descriptions in this site? Do I have to edit them one by one or is their a way of doing this en-masse? Also, since I have a premium store, I understand that there may be other options/assistance available to me. What other help or assistance (such as marketing letters, showcasing the premium store, advertising, etc.) can you suggest? I would like to increase my store presence and my sales.
  • I just went ahead and updated all of your Duck Stamps for you - so they should be fine. I believe the only other items I saw with a similar issue were your Booklets. You could edit these individually if you want to update them as well.

Outside the Bulk Lister, if you are creating or editing a listing directly on HipStamp, what you need to ensure is filled out correctly is the "Country" and "Catalog Number" field. Changing the title won't make a difference once you've already created / imported the listing - since we won't overwrite what information you're supplying in the Country / Catalog Number fields.

We'll reach out to you to follow-up on your other items.

For me it was very easy to adjust the lots to include the country to fit in on this site's system. Before posting here I had everything in the Philatelic Specialty area on Ebay. Changing the lots have been beneficial to sales on Ebay and I am glad I took the time to make the changes for that reason. I guess I was being very lax for not doing it originally over there and it has increased sales and visits by changing it to fit in here.
  • Thanks Mark, I'll try updating the Booklets manually later tonight.

Good luck with this new venture, I'll give you all the support I can, George.

Thank you too, Jerry. Advice is always welcome.
