Item Description

Back when the USPS was willing to pay the license fee for featuring the Olympic Rings on US stamps, they issued this single heralding the acceptance of Baseball as an Olympic competition sport in the 1992 Summer Olympics.

This 2-color printed cachet shows a player using the Olympic Torch as a bat, as the Umpire eyes it disapprovingly. A bit of gold leaf has been added by hand to the flame atop the torch and to the batter's medal!

This cover bears a pair of the OLYMPIC BASEBALL stamps, both cancelled neatly with the standard pictorial First Day of Issue postmark for this issue.
