Very Simply – We are selling the Cut Square
which is accurately described above. We
are disposing of the Philatelic Estate from a long-time Philatelist who specialized
only in collecting Cut Squares. We
are told that he was one of the foremost collectors in his field. This is without doubt the finest kept and
most comprehensive Postal Stationary Collection that we have ever handled. The collector was an Engineer and had a very
keen attention to detail. Each page in
the Album was meticulously protected with archival clear sheet protectors. The family of the late collector tells us
that the collection has been kept in a Safe Deposit Box since at least the
1970’s. This seems to be correct as the
most recent Cut Square in Scott #UC37 (issued in 1967). The collector passed away in the 1970’s at
age 94. As one would expect, some of
these Cut Squares were acquired in the early 1900’s so you should assume that
all are hinged unless specifically noted above.
Our many repeat buyers tell us that they really appreciate us showing
scans of Front and Rear of each stamp.
As these Cut Squares are very difficult to find in such quality
condition we have included scans of the back so you can see prior hinging and
any pencil notes, such as Die, etc. Of
particular interest are some of the prices paid 80+ years ago. We looked in some of the Scott Catalogs from
the 1930’s and 1940’s and many of these prices seem to be contemporary with
that era. It’s fascinating to think of
the number of fine collections these have been in.

We have been asked by the Estate Trustee to
sell approx. 50 Cut Squares with the highest Scott Value as individual lots and
then sell the remaining balance of the collection as a single lot. If you have an interest in the balance of
