Item Description

This business size cover was mailed from Youngstown, Ohio to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1927 franked by a block of eight of the carmine rose Sesquicentennial Expo, Liberty Bell issue of 1926, Scott 627, with plate number. Top left stamp in block has corner fault (see scan). The block is cancelled by four well-struck Youngstown double oval handstamps.

Corner Card: "General Offices / Young Men's Christian Association / Youngstown, Ohio."

Purple cachet: "First Flight Inaugurating Contract Air Mail / Cleveland - Pittsburg Route / Youngstown, Ohio, 3:00PM / April 21, 1927."

Air Mail etiquette reads "National Aeronautic Association."

Slit open top, the backflap has some small tears but is otherwise sealed and intact. Some edge tears and wear mostly due to bulk of original contents (see scans!). No contents. Verso has a New York City "Address your mail to Street and Number" slogan machine cancel.
