Lynn Comittee to abolish Segregation in the Armed Forces: ca 1944 COVER mailed from Lynn's Harlem office, on 1c Franklin entire w Sec 562 PLR imprint, (Scott #U420d), third class bulk rate, legal size envelope w small flaws, addressed Harold Ennis at Cornell College (NOT Cornell University) in Mount Vernon Iowa, mailed by Wilfred H Kerr who ran the Committee, unfortunately we don't have the broadside within but it IS available for view on line and I would say the envelope is far rarer, Lynn was called up for military duty in 1942 under the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 and responded with the following letter: Please be informed that I am ready to serve in any unit of the armed forces of my country that is not segregated by race, Lynn was held for a time, but he had allies including the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Though it was delayed until after WWII was over and FDR had passed away, the anti-segregation forces won their victory when Truman issued Executive Order 9981 in 1948, abolishing racial segregation in the military, this cover is an excellent relic of this battle and is of the highest order of rarity!
