Item Description
WWII Arthur Szyk Ancillary Frameable PAGE Scarce 1941 New Order rare book, Anti Hitler: Color Nazi prisoners flanked by British solders called invaders and Nazi officer speaking with French officer, "The English Betrayed You! --They Did Not Surrender!" (two-sided illustration). Introduction pages are not included and used for info purposes. This is an opportunity for a collector interested in WWII anti Hitler and anti Axis satire to own a page from the very scarce WWII book by Arthur Szyk, The New Order. For some reason, someone (not me!) cut up this uncommon book. Each page is in better than average condition. Finding the book in excellent condition is not common and better than average copies command high prices accorded to books that are in general scarce.
Most of the pages are double-sided as you can see. As an ancillary item, these images would provide excellent material added to a World War II exhibit of stamps and covers. I would also suggest picking out favorite satirical images, professionally matte them and find the perfect frame for placement in your collectibles room, or any room for that matter.
The incredible biting satirical wit of Arthur Szyk is undiminished with the passage of time. Pages measure about 7.5 inches x 9.75 inches... I am reproducing the original introduction and foreword to the book--remember you are buying ONLY the illustration either two-sided or one-sided. See image to find out if it is one or two-sided--most are two-sided. The introduction and forward pages are not included but are shown to give you more information printed at that time about the book and its author--1941.
Tiny edge imperfections noted where pages were removed from book--all minor.
Many patriotic covers were produced in very small quanties-500 was not uncommon, even 100 copies. William Guthrie in his catalog in 1985 for Patriotic Covers of WWII: "The prices shown for each cover are the editor's valuation after buying and selling in excess of 500,000 covers during the past 12 years (written in 1985) and studying prices asked and realized in dealer price lists and auctions. The demand for these covers has greatly increased during the past couple years (again written in 1985). WWII Patriotic Art is now slowly being accepted as an art form."
