Item Description
You Are Purchasing:A cover sent from the U.S. to Cardiff, Wales in 1872. The point of origin appears to be in Maine, and the intended recipient is unclear. The cover is franked with one USA #116, affixed upside down, which has significant creasing at the lower right of the stamp (upper left when viewed upside down). There are additional markings from New York, London, and Cardiff, as well as a handstamp dated in French, presumably from a French steamer. The cover is embossed on the back flap, slit open at the right and has some staining at the top, a bit of soiling, and some minor creasing. A nice piece of transatlantic postal history.
