STAMP USA, RARE, 1875, George Washington 10c GREEN, Reprint, HARD WHITE PAPER, NO CERTIFICATE
The stamp is in very good condition. Unfortunately, it does not have a certificate, which is why the price is lower than in the catalog. The catalog price of a used stamp is 20,000 USD.

In 1876, the United States celebrated 100 years of statehood. The celebration included a huge International Exposition in Philadelphia, parades, and events across the country. In part, the Post Office reissued all the stamps that had been issued up to 1875. They did not sell well, and most of the production had to be destroyed. With the exception of the 1847 stamps, they were postmarked, so used examples can be found.

These were called the 1875 "special printings." All of the original plates were used bar US #1 and #2. The 1847 plates had to be reproduced because the originals were lost to history.

All of the printings were on stiffer, whiter paper than the originals, and most were a different shade from the originals.

#106 is often confused with #68, which is green, and #68a, which is blue-green. The image above shows that #106 has its own unique shade of green. Sharp printing and hard white paper are other features of #106.
