Description

_USA Scott #94 stamp with December 21st (1868 per letter) Despatched Philadelphia, Pennsylvania cds on cameo advertising cover for the American Hotel. Addressed to C.E. Hartung & Company, New York with faint blue company internal handstamp at bottom left. Includes a letter in scrawling German written in the same hand as an 1866 which had one one passage in English reading " To have swindled us out of the amount of a Bill or Bills of goods under false pretenses!!!" I guess the parties must have resolved their differences or the claim was meant for someone else. Hartung was a hair and wig company. _

Sent 1868 (stamp is sound) opened roughly at top with some backflap loss, otherwise light general wear & toning. Fine+ condition. Letter with normal file folds, very fine.
