US Scott#83 var 1867 rarity C grill w/partially erased A grill, PF cert

The Scott catalog has a paragraph describing this rarity and sets a price of $2750 for a used C grill with partially erased A grill

ex-George Worthington this stamp was the source of a lot of controversy when it was thought to be the extremely rare B grill. This has since been shown to be incorrect and actually a result of incomplete "erasure" of the A grill when converted to the C grill. The Siegel auction house described the fault in the upper left as a repair rather than a crease/thin. The PF cert was from 1981. The Siegel sale was in 2005. In any case all that is visible are some short perfs and what appears to be a tiny crease in the margin.
