US Scott#18 attractive 1857 type I 1c Franklin, unobtrusive cancel

attractive, bright stamp with a neat town cancel

A previous owner wrote "20" on the back; however, I think that is incorrect. Based on the completeness of the curl that is visible at the bottom and looking at the plating, I think this is a type I, Scott #18.

However, because I could not definitively plate it (the closest I found was position 44L12), I'm not 100% sure. Further plating work should be able to definitively answer.

Overall a pretty stamp. A couple short perfs on the left, otherwise sound.

About my scans with the light background: I changed from using black Vario pages to transparent pages. This reduces the handling of stamps to scan the backs and provides truer color. The scans are 1200dpi showing more detail and better color. Other than straightening and cropping, the scans have not been altered in any way.
