Us 709 horizontal pair on 1932 george williams y.M.C.A. Illustrated cover --- black berkeley oct 11 1932 calif. (october - california) circular dated postmark with wavy machine bars tying stamps to each other and to cover --- c e morris is secretary in green ink at upper left corner --- reaching the boys of an entire community blue cachet at left

Cachet has illustration of a man holding onto one side of a scale that also holds several boys while a globe showing the americas is shown as lighter on the other side of the scale --- what shall it profit a community if it gain the wold world and lose its own boys below the cachet's illustration --- in honor of george williams, founder y.M.C.A. Movement, october 11, 1821 - november 6, 1905. At bottom of cachet --- lorraine severy - girl's dir[ector] in green script at lower left corner

Addressed to frederick gribish, parrott avenue, bridgeport, connecticut --- this cachet applied by the albany, calif. Y.M.C.A. Stamp club in honor of george williams, who organized the first y.M.C.A. In 1844. Stamped in green at lower center on back --- trivial soiling --- light diagonal crease at lower right corner (from front) --- cover is unsealed

Enclosed letter has partially visible adiron... Bond, made in u.S.A. Watermark --- letter is headed, berkeley young men's christian association, for the conservation of the chief asset of the city - her young men and boys, berkeley, california with extensive lists of officers and directors

Typed letter is dated october 11, 1932, and begins, dear friend --- the writers say, "the boys and girls of the stamp club of the albany y.M.C.A. And community center wish to thank you for your kindness and interest in the geo. Williams cachet of october 11th" --- they explain, "this being the 111[th] anniversary of his birth. George williams founded the first y.M.C.A. In london june 6th 1844."

They suggest, "the club hopes you will be pleased and that the cover will make a nice addition to your collection." --- they request, "we would appreciate hearing of any special cachets that your city may apply in the future." --- they explain their city's geography and some details of the organization
