Item Description
United States, Scott #Cinderella 3, used(o), 1969, American Red Cross Christmas Seal single, no denomination, Christmas Seals are fun to collect for all the same reasons people collect postage stamps; they're beautiful in their way and have a neat backstory; plus, they're festive and the proceeds from their original sale go to a good cause, and when people collect them, more of them will be sold; in the early 1900s, the disease of tuberculosis was a major health concern across the globe; in 1904, Danish postal clerk Einar Holbøll came up with the idea of adding an extra stamp to holiday mail to raise money for tuberculosis research and patient care; the idea was approved and Denmark issued the world's first Christmas Seal that year; not long after, in 1907, American doctor Joseph Wales was facing the closing of his Delaware Tuberculosis Sanitarium; he needed to raise $300 or he would have to close the clinic; learning of what Denmark had done, his cousin designed the first American Christmas seals, and these went on sale in Delaware post offices on December 7th, 1907, and a program was begun; today, the annual seals raise over $60 million for the American Lung Association, the major source of their income; this seal from 1927 was designed by the students at the Drexel Institute; Scott 2025 Catalog Value: not listed, considerably off-centered (fine);it has been through the mails, triple struck cancelled, all red-inked, circular, double-rimmed, quarter counter-clockwise turned, socked-on-the-nose cancels, the main, three-quarter circular, centered down and left from middle and extending over most of the left front of the stamp, the second, half circular on the top middle half of the stamp, the third, also half circular on the lower right border and corner, sound back, good perforations. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the Cinderella stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
