Item Description
United States, Scott #5829, used(o), 2024, Lunar Year Stamp, Year of the Dragon; the dragon is the fifth in the twelve-year periodic sequence of animals that appear in the Chinese zodiac; the USPS began introducing lunar new year stamps over thirty years ago, this stamp is the fifth stamp of like design in the third series which began in 2020; the designs for this Lunar New Year series are meant to remind us of the elaborately decorated masks used in the dragon dances often performed in Lunar New Year parades; this year's Year of the Dragon mask was made by adapting techniques from traditional paper-cut folk-art crafts often used to create decorations during Lunar New Year; people born in this year are considered lucky since Chinese emperors were said to also descend from the dragons, so they share the luck of the emperors, issued as a (68¢) forever stamp, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 11, issued in panes of 20 identical stamps with non-water soluble self-adhesive, offset lithography printed with a purple foil application printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), phosphorus tagged paper coated, 'USPS' in black ink, security, microprint just above the green floral image above the dragon's right eye on the left side of the stamp; the year of printing is also in dotted, black ink, security microprint at the lower right border, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: not listed, but probably 25¢, very slightly off-centered (extremely fine), light, horizontal, black-inked, wavy line over the top quarter of the stamp and largely clear of the main image, good perforations, stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted; centering, mounting, and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
