United States, Scott #5827, used(o), 2024, New Priority Mail Stamp, the Priority and Express Mail Stamps have a new format for the first time since 2008, the first two stamps of the new series features Space Phenomena captured by the NASA Webb Space Telescope, this stamp shows the ‘Pillars of Creation’, the elephant-trunk-like formations of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula some 6,500–7,000 light-years from Earth; they got their name because the gas and dust are in the process of creating new stars, in a cosmic race while also being eroded by the light from nearby stars that have recently formed; the stamp is a digitally colored depiction of the invisible bands of mid-infrared light emitted by the formations and captured by the Webb telescope; the white glowing pinpoints toward the end of the pillars show burgeoning stars ejecting raw materials as they form, while the relatively small red orbs scattered throughout the image show newly born stars; priority mail rate of $9.85, offset lithography printed by Ashton Potter USA (APU), issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive panes, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, ‘USPS’ in black-inked security microprint at the head tallest pillar toward the top of the stamp, right of center, multi-colored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: $10.00; nicely centered (superb), light, three quarter circular, black-inked, double rimmed, cancel over the top three-quarters of the stamp, however, the lightness of the cancel and the black cancel on a dark stamp leaves the main image virtually clear, stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed, first on a piece of white paper for color contrast, and then on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted; centering, mounting, and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
