Item Description
United States, Scott #5801, used(o), 2023, Commemorating and honoring John Lewis (1940-2020), American Civil Rights leader and Congressman; he became involved in the civil right movement in its early stages and as a young man; he met Rosa Parks when he was 17 and Martin Luther King Jr. when he was 18; he organized sit-ins and other protests in Nashville while a student at Fisk University; at this time, he coined the concept of “a good trouble, and a necessary trouble;” he joined the Freedom Riders in 1961, facing extreme violence and arrests, and nearly killed from a police clubbing, but he never backed down; he became the youngest speaker at the 1963 March on Washington, giving his speech right before Martin Luther King Jr; he went on the serve in the US House of Representatives from 1987 until his death; issued as a 'forever' stamp at a counter price of 66 cents, offset lithography printed by the Ashton Potter USA (APU), serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive gum on multiple stamp panes, ‘USPS’ in vertical microprint on the blue part of the shirt just to the right of the tie, multicolored, Scott Supplemental Catalog Value: 40¢, nicely centered, horizontal, fancy script, black-inked message cancel across the top quarter of the stamp and into the main image, good perforations, stamp was removed from its mailing envelope using a Bestine solvent and placed, first on a piece of white paper for color contrast, and then on a piece of black card stock for a uniform and attractive album appearance; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.55 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.68 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
