Item Description
United States, Scott #5739, used (o), 2022, Hanukkah Menorah, the annual Hanukkah issue to celebrate the important Jewish holiday; stamp pictures hand-dyed, appliquéd and quilted fiber art to form an abstract image of a menorah, a nine-branched candle holder used during the holiday; a seven candle menorah has been described in the Hebrew Bible, and in later ancient sources, as having been used in the Tabernacle and in the Temple in Jerusalem, the seven days representing the seven days of creation, the seven candle menorah are reserved for use in high holy place synagogues, but since ancient times, a nine candle replica has served in the homes of Jewish people as a symbol representing the Jewish people and Judaism in both the Land of Israel and the worldwide Diaspora; the nine candle menorah, properly called a hanukkiah, has eight branches for each night of Hanukkah, plus a ninth branch for the ‘shamash’ (servant) candle which is used to light the other candles; the eight branches stem from the tradition of the olive oil used in the original menorah having lasted for eight days; the stamp's artwork was executed by Jeanette Kuvin Oren; issued as a forever stamp with a counter value of (60 cents), offset lithography printing by the Banknote Corporation of American (BCA), serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 11; issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive gum, ‘USPS’ in black-inked, security microprint along the left top arc of the blue triangle piece of cloth at the lower left, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), horizontal, black-inked, wavy line cancellation across the front of the stamp and over the main image, sound back, good perforations; mounting and centering warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
