Item Description

United States, Scott #5557, used(o), 2021, Chien-Shiung Wu (1912-1997), an American nuclear physicist; during the Manhattan Project, she worked at Columbia University, helping develop the process for separating uranium metal into U-235 and U-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion; this process was replicated at a grand scale at the World War II K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge; Wu was born in a small town near Shanghai,; her father believed in education for girls; she studied physics at university in Shanghai; In 1936, Wu arrived in San Francisco and enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley where she completed her Ph.D. in 1940; serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 11, lithography, non-water soluble sheets of 120 in panes of 20; multicolored, forever stamp (55 cents), Scott 2019 catalog value: unlisted, nicely centered, light, quarter circular, double-rimmed, black-inked, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at bottom left and just into the main image, good perforations, stamp was issued pressure-sensitive, self-adhesive panes with a water insoluble gum, this stamp was soaked from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive album mounting; centering and cancellation warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.

I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
