Item Description
United States, Scott #5311, used(o), 2018, Sixth Stamp in the Global Mail Circular Stamp Series that began in 2013, stamp shows a Christmas poinsettia (euphorbia pulcherrima) flower from the small tropical tree that bears its name, and which grows in excess of ten feet when in the wild in its native Mexico; its colorful, usually red, flower petals are actually not flowers, but colored leaves called 'bracts'; the plant's flowers instead are small yellow cup-shaped structures in the center of the bract leaves; the plant was revered by the Aztec natives a symbol of purity and was used to make dyes, cosmetics, and medicines; the Spanish missionary priests noted that the plant bloomed in wintertime and incorporated the plant in their Nativity celebrations; hence its long lasting association with Christmas; the plant was named after Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett, our first Ambassador to Mexico who sent cuttings of the exotic plant back to America in the early 19th century; forever global mail postage rate ($1.15) for first class mail less than 1 ounce, offset lithography printed by the Banknote Corporation of America, serpentine die cut rouletted perforations, issued non-water soluble self adhesive panes, stamp has a slanted "USPS" in black-inked microprinting on a red bract at the five o'clock position for the stamp as positioned above, Scott 2025 catalog value: 50¢; nicely centered (superb), probably triple strike cancelled, all very light, black-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose cancellations, the main and most visible, a quarter circular cancel at the bottom right quarter of the stamp as scanned and placed for view, with a second, very light cancel over the left half of the stamp, and a third on the upper left quarter, again as positioned for the scan, the lightness of all cancels leave the main image remarkably clear, good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope and placed on a piece of black cardstock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted, centering, mounting, and largely image clear cancels warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
