Item Description
United States, Scott #5179, used(o), 2017, Commemorating the Sesquicentennial of Nebraska Statehood; the Nebraska Territory was established in 1854 by the Kansas-Nebraska Act as a compromise in the slavery issue; its mostly flat landscape made it ideal for growing crops and raising livestock; in 1862, President Lincoln introduced the Homestead Act, promising people over 100 acres of land each if they moved west; the act led thousands of settlers to travel across the country to claim their free land, and thus helping territories like Nebraska get the 60,000 people needed to become a state; Nebraska became eligible for statehood in 1866, shortly after the end of the Civil War; the territory drafted a constitution and submitted it to Congress; however, it was not accepted until voting rights were granted to men of all races; Nebraska made the change and became the 37th state in the Union on March 1, 1867; stamp shows a flock of sandhill cranes flying over the Platte River; the major river system in Nebraska; formed in the western part of the state at the tip it shares with Colorado by the confluence of the North Platte and South Platte Rivers; it then flows across the state from west to east to joining the Missouri River at Omaha; serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, issued with non-water soluble gum on self-adhesive panes, offset lithography printed by Ashton Potter USA (APU), ‘USPS’ in horizontal black-inked security microprint in the tree top horizon left of center and seen through the river rushes in the foreground; the date of issue is also in vertical, dotted black-ink microprint on the lower left border, issued as a forever stamp at an individual counter value of (49 cents), multicolored, Scott 2025 catalog value: 25¢. Nicely centered (superb), very light, half circular, black-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose cancellation running from lower middle center and extending over to the lower right corner, the lightness of the cancel leaves the main image largely clear, good perforations; the stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope by use of the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted; centering, mounting and image free cancel warrants a selling price premium - this is an example of a perfect used stamp - nicely centered, light image clear cancel, but with sufficient cancellation details to assure stamp was postally used and not a CTO or courtesy cancel, good perforations, fresh clear impression, flawless surface - a perfect used stamp! This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
