Item Description
United States, Scott #4952, used(o), 2015, fifth and final stamp in the series remembering the War of 1912 between the United States and Great Britain, stamp recalls the American Victory in the Battle of New Orleans, stamp shows a portion of the one mile defensive fortification known as 'Jackson's Wall' with the American commander General Andrew Jackson on horseback rallying his troops; ill-prepared prior to the battle, Jackson amassed a force of 4,500 militiamen, army regulars, city aristocrats, Choctaw natives, and even pirates; to face off against and invasion force of 8,000 British army regulars; primarily by deploying an impregnable defensive strategy, the Americans soundly defeated the British, the Americans lost only 60 men, while the British suffered over 2,000 casualties including their commanding general and most of their officers; interestingly in a time before electronic communications, the battle was fought two weeks after the peace treaty ending the war was agreed; nevertheless Jackson became an instant hero locally, and as news spread, made the 47-year-old Andrew Jackson a national hero, paving the path to his presidency over a decade later; serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾x10½, issued with non-water soluble gum on self-adhesive panes of 20, photogravure printed by the American-Canadian company: CCL Industries Incorporated, issued as a forever stamp with a counter value of (49 cents), multicolored, Scott 2025 catalog value: 25¢. Slightly off-centered (very fine), light, black-inked, horizontal, wavy line cancellation over the top half of the stamp and over the main image, good perforations; the stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope by use of the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance; centering and mounting warrant a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
