Item Description
United States, Scott #4568, used(o), 2011, Celebrating the Art of Romare Bearden (1911-1988), an American artist, author, and songwriter; he worked with many types of media including cartoons, oils, and collages; much of his work focused on unity and cooperation within the African-American community; this theme re-emerged in his collage works of the 1960s; the New York Times described Bearden as "the nation's foremost collagist,", stamp shows his 1964 collage work "Prevalence of Ritual: Conjur Woman," a figure familiar to many African Americans, a figure magical, both admired and feared, for her supernatural abilities and mastery of natural elements; in his collage, she floats amid the plants that provide raw material for her medicines and spells, forever stamp issued at 44 cents, serpentine die cut 10¾, no watermark, issued on panes as a non-water soluble self-adhesive stamp, multicolored, Scott 2019 catalog value: 40¢. Nicely centered, large, light, three-quarter circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, smudged and broken-up, socked-on-the-nose cancellation over the main image, the broken-up effect and the lightness of the cancel leaves the main image largely clear, the stamp was soaked from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive album mounting, good perforations; mounting and centering and largely image free cancel warrants a selling price premium This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.40 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.60 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
