Item Description
United States, Scott #4018, used(o), 2006, X-Plane Series, Priority Mail, stamp shows: the X-15 rocket plane; the X-planes were experimental U.S. aircraft created to test the technology of supersonic and space flight, the first, X-1, was the first to break the sound barrier in 1947; the experiments continued, and in 1959, the X-15 attained speeds of Mach 4, then 5, and then 6. meaning six times the speed of sound or more than 4,000 miles per hour; and it was able to fly so high, it qualified as space flight, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾x10½, issued with non-water soluble gum on self-adhesive panes, lithography and hologram printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), stamp has ‘x-plane’ in blackinked micro security print on the plane's middle underbelly, $4.05, blue, green, red, and black, Scott 2025 catalog value: $5.00. Nicely centered (superb), heavy, large, quarter-to-half circular, black-inked, smudged, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the top left and into the main image, hologram is intact, good perforations; the stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope by use of the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive album appearance; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
