Item Description
United States, Scott #3872, used(o), 2004, American Treasurers Series: stamp shows the floral still life “Giant Magnolia on a Blue Velvet Cloth” by Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904), a key artist from the Hudson River School and known for his luminous landscapes and botanical still lifes; the painting on the stamp is currently in the collection of the National Gallery of Art; it’s considered one of his best works; according to the museum, ‘Certainly works, such as Heade’s Giant Magnolia on a Blue Velvet Cloth, with its striking contrasts of brilliantly lit flowers and leaves set against a dark background, are among the most original still lifes of the nineteenth century;' the American Treasures Series ran between 2001 and 1011 showcasing fine art from American collections, 37 cents, photogravure printed by Sennett Security Products, a booklet stamp, from one of the internal left side stamps, serpentine die cut perforations at scale 10¾ at the top, right, and bottom, imperforated at the left side; issued with non-water soluble self adhesive gum, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), which is exceptional for a booklet stamp as most are considerably off-centered, horizontal, black inked, wavy line cancel over the top two-thirds of the stamp and over the main image, good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted, centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
