Item Description
United States, Scott #3616, used(o), 2003 definitive, George Washington (1732-1799); an American Founding Father, military officer, and statesman who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1997;appointed by the Second Continental Congress as Commander of the Continental Army in 1775, he let patriot forces to victory in the American Revolutionary War and then served as president of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, which drafted and ratified the Constitution of the United States which established the U.S. federal government; he was then twice elected president by the Constitution's Electoral College unanimously; he set enduring precedents for the Office of President, including the presence of republicanism, a peaceful transfer of power, the use of the title ‘Mr. President’, and the two-term tradition, the stamp shows Washington in right profile from a bust by sculptor Jean-Antoine Houden in 1785; 23 cents, perforated: 11¼ x 11¼ (other similar stamps, a 2001 coil, and 2002 coils and booklets), offset lithography printed by Ashton Potter USA (APU), 'USPS' in black-inked micro-print on the bottom edge, right of center, green, Scott 2019 Catalog Value: 25¢; nicely centered, large, light, quarter-to-half circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, broken-up and hollowed-out, socked-on-the-nose cancel centered on the upper right border of the stamp and extending over the entire stamp, the lightness of the cancel and its hollowed-out and broken-up effects leave the main image largely clear, sound back, good perforations; centering and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.55 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.68 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers' Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
