Item Description

Header block of ten (68-cent) forever stamps commemorating the Underground Railroad in MNH, F-VF condition. No flaws noted. The die cuts are fully intact (i.e. no separations or folds are noted), the stamps are crisp & their colors are distinct. Selvage is attached along the top and left & right sides of the block of stamps and the top selvage is printed with the stamps' header text (i.e. "THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD"). A map of the United States is seen on the back of the block of stamps with the routes of the Underground Railroad indicated. The block of stamps depict (in left-to-right, top-to-bottom order) the following Underground Railroad freedom seekers & operatives: Harriet Tubman (SC #5834), Thomas Garrett (SC #5835), William Still (SC #5836), Harriet Jacobs (SC #5837), Jermain Loguen (SC #5838), Catharine Coffin (SC #5839), Lewis Hayden (SC #5840), Frederick Douglass (SC #5841), William Lambert (SC #5842) and Laura Haviland (SC #5843). Photogravure, self-adhesive gum, tagged, serpentine die cut 10¾.
