Item Description
The Guernsey bailiwick of Alderney celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - the creator of Sherlock Holmes - in 2009, with a set of 6 stamps depicting scenes from his short story that directly applies here - "The Curious Case of the Alderney Bull".This handcolored cachet depicts the Puffin Cachets mascot in his deerstalker cap as he follows the trail of some philatelic mystery. The four stamps on the cover received nice strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancel of October 29, 2009.
The revsre carries the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this is cover #3 of only 10 covers sent to Alderney in the English Channel for servicing!
