Item Description
This is a "stock item" and i use a "stock scan" for identification purposes. The quality of the stamp or cover you receive will match (or exceed!) the written description, though it may look slightly different from the item in the scan.Teixeira - uc12, first day of use at a.P.O. #1
United states first day covers - interesting & unusual issues
First day of use of uc12 at a.P.O. #1, october 8, 1946
Teixeira cachet. Listed as #152 by Teixeira. (I know...it was issued BEFORE the CIPEX issues of 1947. Why then does it have a HIGHER catalog number? I don't know!)
Cover is on a UC12 Stamped Envelope.
UC12, an overprint of UC5N, was issued October 1, 1946 in Aiea Heights, Hawaii for a decrease in airmail rates. October 8 was the first day those envelopes were available at A.P.O. #1, also in Hawaii. It's not a "First Day"; it's more of a "Military Event Cover".
It's also a Teixeira, and one of his best.
And NOW, we come to the really interesting part. Teixeira produced both UC12 and UC13 covers that day....and he DID know the difference. Please examine the second scan above.
The ADDRESS in the lower half of that scan appears on UC12s. The ADDRESS in the upper half of that scan appears on UC13s. The TYPE STYLES are different in many ways... AND YET, both envelopes were sold as "Catalog No. 152". A mystery here....
Captain Frank L. Teixeira is best known for his Patriotic Series, produced while he was in the U.S. Army.... though he also produced "regular" FDCs. They were sold by subscription only, and are generally scarce. In addition to standard FDCs and Patriotics he also produced "event" covers.
How good was he? He was SO good....that he was selling these for $2.00 back in 1946, when most other cachet makers were selling theirs for pennies!
Unaddressed and in excellent condition.

MINIMUM ORDER, $10 PLEASE.
If you buy several lots, please load up the Shopping Cart and pay ONCE, when you're finished ordering.
Please Don't Pay After Each Lot.
Postage for multiple lots is always discounted; you'll never pay more than the actual shipping charges.
If you're buying several lots and the Hip checkout system hands you a postage bill which is off the charts, you can either:
1. Request a total from me BEFORE you pay (in which case I can dig into their system and adjust the postage charge).... or
2. Just pay the whole thing, and when I fill your order, I'll adjust the charges and send you a refund.
I'm a dinosaur on the internet, making my customers happy the old-fashioned way, just as i've done thru the mail since 1971.
Satisfaction is always guaranteed! As an asda member i stand behind what i sell. Any item i fail to properly describe may be returned within 7 days for a full refund, plus shipping costs.
N.Y. STATE residents must pay the Sales Tax of the County in which they live.
Hip currently collects Sales Tax for 30+ states, as well as NY.
OVERSEAS CUSTOMERS, please don't ask me to misrepresent the value of your order so you can avoid import fees or the V.A.T..
All small, "flat" shipments - stamps, cinderella items, postal stationery, postal history and first dav covers - will be shipped in a _calumet_ hard cardboard mailer. (see the scan at the right.) this mailer offers much greater protection than bubble wrap, and is only a little heavier and more costly to ship.
Larger items will be shipped in corrugated mailers.
If you buy several lots, the shipping charges will be reduced. See the WHITE PRINT above for details.
U.S. SHIPPING CHARGES for this item are $3.00 for a USPS First Class Package. Insurance is FREE.
WORLDWIDE SHIPPING CHARGES for this item are roughly:
$11.00 for an International First Class Package to Canada
$12.00 for an international first class package to mexico
$14.00 for an international first class package to the rest of the world.
A FINAL WORD - ABOUT MY SCANS: What you get will be BETTER than what you see! Computer scans often show darker or lighter areas which aren't on the actual item, and the larger the object to be scanned, the more areas will be affected. Plus, I scan using a "cover sheet" to hold the item in place, and the plastic cover can creates glare. And, I often use shortcuts because I just don't have the time to scan every item I sell; I sometimes have to recycle an old scan to illustrate a new item.
ALWAYS GO WITH THE DESCRIPTION! Your item may look a LITTLE different from the scan, but it will match the description 100%.....and it will ALWAYS be a top-quality item. My feedback on Hip speaks for itself.
