Item Description

One of the most interesting stamps of Switzerland. 20 Centimes"Grimsel Barrage" from about 1949-50, first engraving. This engraving had been printed, but rejected because of the engraving, which was considered not sufficiently pronounced - by mistake or because of a shortage these stamps have been issued without any announce a few months after the first day of the regular issue.

First unnoticed by the collectors, very few stamps survived in unused condition. While unused stamps are great rarities, the used ones are affordable, but also quite difficult to obtain.

In unsearched bundles or duplication, just one of about 10.000 stamps is from the first engraving. The characteristics of the first print are:

Missing diagonal strokes above the figure 2 and missing ground line of the house at medium height, generally the design appears weaker.

Here is an example with slogan cancel from Bern in very fine condition.
