Stampless FLS NY to Cognac France on the Ship Ville de Paris of the French Line 1869.
The ship for this cover was determined by the sailing dates.
The ship left New York on August 7 arriving at Brest on the 16th and Havre on the 18th.
Black cds "NEW 6 YORK AUG 7" indicates a double rate debiting France 6 cents (2x 3) for an unpaid letter.
An octagonal dcds "ETATS.UNIS 7 OCT 69 PAQ.FR H N 03" indicates this cover entered French mail on board the ship on the 7th of August 1869
The French numeral "16" postage due was struck also struck on board the ship indicating a double rate postage due (8x2).
On the Back:
A black  "*Paris* 18 aout 69 ......." transit marke was stamped in Paris.
A poor strike of the "PARIS A BORDEUS.................." indicates transit on the Paris to Bordeaux railway.
Finally two Cognac receivers one dated the 18th and one dated the 19th?????
