Item Description
United States, Scott #4486, used(o), 2010 definitive coil, Statue of Liberty, gray on a blue background, stamps shows the Head of the Statue of Liberty that stands in New York City Harbor; the statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi in collaboration with engineer Gustave Eiffel as a gift from France to the United States on the centenary of American Independence in 1876; the statue stands 305 feet high and represents a woman holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet bearing the adoption date of the Declaration of Independence in her left hand; it is a world-famous symbol of freedom; the stamp was issued as a forever stamp at a counter value of (44¢) each for the first class letter mailing rate, perforated: 9½ vertical, imperforated top and bottom, perforations at the sides (IPPI), not a plate number stamp, issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive, offset lithography printed by Ashton Potter USA (APU), ‘4evR’ representing ‘forever’ in slanting black security print in the hairline edge on the statue's left side (note the upper and lower case letter arrangement in the security print as the other stamps in the series vary in this regard), ‘2011’ in black microprint at the top left border (although printed and issued in 2010), Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, slightly off centered (very fine), light, black-inked, horizontal, wavy line cancellation over most of the stamp surface and over the main image, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance, good perforations; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. This is not an easy issue to collect … three different printers, each with different printing choices … paired with se-tenant flag and statue stamps … coils, booklets, and automatic dispensing machine panes … if you consider that differing stamp edges make different stamps, each of the three booklet stamps have six differing stamp edges (if “I” stands for an imperf edge, and “P” stands for a perforated edge, and you start from the top clockwise, each booklet would have a IPPI, IPPP, IIPP, PIIP, PPIP, and a PPII) shared between the statue stamps and the flag stamps … the automatic dispensing machine panes were issued in three rows, so there are nine different stamp edges ( IPPI, IPPP, IIPP, PIPP, PPPP, PPPI, PIIP, PPIP, and a PPII) again, shared between the statue stamps and the flag stamps … interestingly the ATM panes have four internal stamps that are perf-four sided; traditional stamps with perforations on all four sides … then the three possible coils have plate number stamps at varying intervals on their coil … making for surface different stamps … so, two possible stamp for each coil issue, or six different stamps … total for the issue: 33 face-and-side-different stamps, shared somewhat equally between the statues and flag stamps, for the issue … so have your perforation gauge and 20X magnifying glass at the ready for this issue as the perforation gages and the security microprint differences become critical for this issue.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
