Item Description

Not listed in the Scott catalog. Never issued. This is a FORGERY because it is not perf 11-1/2. Single 4 piaster King Alfonso XIII & Queen Victoria Eugenia stamp in UNUSED, F-VF condition. A hinge remnant is seen on the back of the stamp, otherwise no flaws noted. Gum is immaculate & shiny (except at the area of the hinge remnant), the stamp is crisp & its color is bright. Engraved, water-activated gum, perf 11.

Regarding the original: An International Exhibition of Hygiene, Arts, and Manufactures was held in the Crystal palace in Madrid from September to November 1907 under the patronage of the Spanish Government.Due to economic conditions, the war with America and political changes, the Spanish Government was making every effort to restore prosperity. The exposition was seen as a way to turn things around. The King Alfonso XIII & Queen Victoria Eugenia Stamps were issued to highlight the event and were only valid within the confines of the Exhibition, and required to be duplicated (by the organizers) with general issue stamps.
