Item Description

Iceland celebrated the Marine Mammals living in the cold waters around their island nation in 1999 with these first four stamps in a multi-year series. The four stamps show a Killer Whale, a Sperm Whale, a Blue Whale, and a trio of Harbor Porpoises - all found in Iceland's coastal waters.

The cachet shows a Puffin in swimming trunks and bathing cap, waving the Icelandic flag as he fearlessly rides a Killer Whale! The cover received two nice strikes of the Reykjavík First Day of Issue cancel from March 4, 1999 that depicts a whale's flukes.

The reverse of the cover has the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this is cover #1 of only 11 sent to Iceland for servicing!
