Item Description
Iceland Post for many years issued two stamps per year celebrating their native birdlife. All beautifully illustrated by iceland's master stamp designer Throstur Magnasson.Here are the 1997 entrants in that avian progression - the Red-Breasted Merganser and the High-Value Green-Winged Teal.
This handcolored Puffin Cachet shows the two birds on a dull green handmade envelope bearing two nice strikes of the official First Day pictorial cancel used in Reykjavik on 4 February 1997.
The reverse shows that this is cover #1 of only 10 sent to Iceland for servicing.
