Scott Antique Catalogue Cut

Sorry, I do not remember the date, but it was somewhere in the early 1980s I believe, Scott Publishing Company (Scott Stamp Catalogues) began to replace the old wood cuts that they had used for decades to print the images of stamps in their catalogs and stamp albums with photographic images. Rather than destroy these fine wood engravings of stamps, Scott offered them to the public. There is only one of each stamp design in existence, so this is truly a one-of-a-kind item that is rarely seen.

This wood cut is of stamp design India #A30, Scott catalog number #50. It was used in the production of the Scott catalogs and album pages, and still maintains a sharp image. The wood cut is black from the ink used during the printing process.

The wood cut is mounted on a metal printer's block that is about one inch square, and weighs about one pound. It is secured in a soft, spongy holder kept inside a special keepsake box.

The keepsake box shows a little bit of wear. No other damage or wear is found on this item.
