This is a Scott #79-E8a - 3c Gold - Loewenberg Decalcomania.
One of the interesting things about this Essay is that it is literally printed in GOLD. (A type of gold mix into the ink, that gives the stamp it's gold appearance). Similar to gold leaf, but finely mixed with the bonding agent. The only US Stamp actually printed in GOLD (not to be mistaken with the "gold reprints" of many modern stamps which actually aren't gold at all...).
