Item Description

Here are post office fresh examples of the 17 cent precanceled Electric Auto, Scott 1906a, from the transportation coil series. You will receive three mint never hinged plate number strips of ten with plate numbers 3, 4 and 5. This issue has four different types of precancel that can be identified by the length of the word "PRESORTED". Type A is 11.3mm long, Type B is 12.8mm long, and Type C is either 13.4 or 14mm long. These strips exhibit a combination of two different types. Type A is to the left of the gap and Type B is to the right. These strips have a gap in the precancel lines at the five right (5R) postion. The 17 cent 3 and 4 A-B mixed font with gap in the 5R position is the scarcest of all the 17c mixed fonts. All known examples have numbers close to the bottom or are slightly cut. This nicely centered set shows about 95% of the number at the bottom with only a slight indication of the number at the top of the strip. Retail for these two strips alone is $950 in F-VF condition. As an added bonus, I have also added the plate number 5 strip (also combination type A-B with gap at the 5R position).
