The character of Scooby-Doo would not be so enduringly successful without the talent behind his creation and design -- legendary Hanna-Barbara and Disney artist Iwao Takamoto! Takamoto was the chief character designer at Hanna-Barbara studios for over 35 years and created hundreds of the popular characters that entertained us as kids on Saturday mornings!The Jetson's dog ASTRO, Atom Ant, Squiddly Diddley, the Banana Splits quartet, Josie and the Pussycats, Touché Turtle, Secret Squirrel . . . the list goes on and on! Even if you don't recognize their names, you would recognize them from the way they look -- and that's where Takamoto's genius is so evident.
Here he is caricatured on a FDC for the Scooby-Doo stamp, mimicking the Great Dane and his watering can, but instead of watering a flower, he's pouring out a few of his iconic character designs!
The cover bears a single of the stamp, cancelled with the FDoI DCP of Bloomington MN. Less than 80 were made.
