Item Description
The EUROPA stamp theme for 1997 was "Tales and Legends" from each issuing country, and Jersey focused on four disturbing folk tales for their set. Two of the neatest were 'The Bull of St. Clement' - a ferociously roaring bull that inhabited the rocky shore of St. Clement, and scared fishermen away from the area for many years - and The Black Dog of Bouley Bay - a huge, snarling black dog with sharp teeth and glowing eyes that would chase terror-stricken nighttime walkers at Bouley Bay.The handcolored cachet shows the Puffin Cachets mascot trembling in fear as he is accosted by the angry Bull and intimidating Dog!
The stamps were issued by Jersey at their booth at the PACIFIC97 International Stamp Show in San Francisco. This cover bears corner 'traffic light' singles of the two stamps, and both are carefully canceled with a clean strike of the Jersey pictorial cancel used only at their booth at PACIFIC97. This is the only cover serviced with this exact franking.
The reverse features the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this is cover #1 of only 6 serviced!
