412 1c Perf 8 1/2 W/F Vert Perf Coil Used...Fine I was digging through a box of misc usual "stuff" today and was pleasantly surprised to find three dozen of these in an aging glassine among other groups of sometimes mis-identified and generally low-valued material. They have a solid CV even used since they proved difficult for customers to use (easy to tear pieces out of neighboring stamps with perfs this widely-spaced). Pretty much every one of them looked to have been likely snipped with scissors to separate. My guess is these were sent out by a business as their postage on a return reply card or envelope mailed a few years prior to WWI and a previous owner/collector had access to the returned replies so soaked them and gathered up into a discreet bunch that nobody's messed with until I noticed them just now. So how to price fairly? I've scanned every one of that group and am going to list them all. There's a group of, oh, seven, that are pretty nice given almost all of these do have perfs cut in a straight line, sometimes taking all or nearly all the perfs off one side. So: measurable perfs on both edges plus decent up-down coil edge centering for the best group I'll label "F/VF" and price $10 each. The secondary value will be $5 for ones with poor up-down centering *or* one perf side mostly snipped away; those I'll label "Fair." The final half--dozen or so I'll label "Faulty" and price at $1.50; some of those will have torn corners or a concealed thin, or bad centering plus perfs missing on one side.
