Samuel Gompers was originally born in London, England and Immigrated to America in 1863.
Worked for his father's Cigar company, and eventually became President of the Cigar Maker's International Union. He also brought together unions with similar goals and helped found the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions in 1881.
Later reorganized and renamed the "AFL" American Federation of Labor.
