The Claude C. Ries Chapter - an enthusiastic group of Southern California FDC collectors - gathers every summer for a bountiful BBQ at the home of a club member. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Ice Cream and Watermelon are the staples!In 2024 we gathered at the Moreno Valley home of Gladys Jones, whose home is virtually a Winnie The Pooh museum. Temperatures hit 99˚, but we barely noticed, as we chowed down on the bounty of summertime goodies.
That's Mermaid Gladys smilingly riding a SEA TURTLE and ready to serve BBQ'd Cheeseburgers, unaware that Pooh and Piglet are hanging on for dear life behind her! The cover is franked with the recent HAWKSBILL TURTLE single from the SEA TURTLES set. It is cancelled with a facsimile postmark that was applied a bit off-kilter!
This cover (which, like all the others, had this same misplaced postmark) was given out to attendees of the annual summer get-together and very few were left over!
It was a great party . . . and nobody melted!
