Item Description
The Claude C. Ries Chapter - a lively conglomeration of Southern California FDC collectors - gathers every summer for a bountiful BBQ -- for many years at the Pasadena home of noted philatelist Frederick Langford, a stately manor where Frederick was born and grew up in the 1910s.Now known as the Frederick Langford Memorial BBQ, the big event had moved to the the West Hills home of the late Chapter member and cover dealer Ron Sobel by 2012.
This cover was given out to attendees of the annual summer get-together in 2013. It bears a single from the New England Lighthouses issue showing Portland Head Light in Maine, and the cachet shows Ron and his dog Lady bringing home burgers and hotdogs to their giant hot dog lighthouse!
It was cancelled on July 27, 2013 - the date of the BBQ - at the West Hills, CA P.O. - the nearest postal facility to Ron's home.
