Item Description
A Red Squirrel proudly shows his pals just what it means to "self-stick" himself to mail, as the USPS proudly let us all know when this early SAG issue came out in 1993.This cover bears a 29¢ Red Squirrel single, as well as the booklet strip that proclaimed this as a 'self adhesive stamp'. The separate little strip fell dead-on under one of the cancellation bars!
The cachet was offset printed in red and green, with the yellow pine sap 'adhesive' added by hand. When these were first sold 26 years ago, the purchaser had the option of having his name hand-lettered in the empty spot on the envelope, making it appear that the squirrel-franked letter was addressed to him/her. We'll offer that option again, if you like!
