Recovery of Apollo 4 -AS 501 by (PRS) USS Bennington (CVS-20) from Pacific OceanThis cover commemorates the splashdown and recovery of the Unmanned Apollo 4 Flight - (AS 501) on 11/09/1967. The mission was designed to test the heat shield at re-entry velocity and was the first launch of the Saturn V launch vehicle. The space capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean where it was picked up by the USS Bennington ( CVS-20) on the day of the recovery. This Beck # B729 cacheted cover is not addressed and machine cancelled on board the USS Bennington. C/V=$116
