APOLLO 11 TO THE MOON - Prime Recovery Ship Cancel - USS Hornet (CVS-12) astronauts: Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin -"We came in peace for all mankind". This lot consists of an un addressed cover commemorating the splash down and recovery in the Pacific Ocean of the Apollo 11 space voyage. The 3 astronauts: Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin travelled to the moon; landed on the lunar surface and returned to earth. On this epic flight, Astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first human to set foot on the moon. This cover was machine cancelled on board the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hornet on 07/24/1969, the day of the recovery and franked with a stamp of the period.
