Glenn, who on 02/20/1962 became the first American astronaut to orbit the earth. Col. Glenn circled the earth 3 times during his 5hour flight. Returning to Earth, he splashed down in the Atlantic ocean in his Mercury space capsule "Friendship Seven", and was picked up by the prime recovery ship USS Noa, DD-841. This cover was machine cancelled on 2/20/1962 at Cleveland, Ohio, home of F. Hein producer of ASTRO COVERS. This cover has a green cachet franked with a 3cent Fort Bliss stamp.SELDOM SEEN
