Item Description
The Claude C. Ries Chapter - an enthusiastic medley of Southern California FDC collectors - gathers every summer for a bountiful BBQ, held for many years at the Pasadena home of the late noted philatelist Frederick Langford, a stately manor where Frederick was born and grew up in the 1910s.Back in 2007, as you can see from the cachet, in order to celebrate the Jamestown Quadricentennial stamp Frederick dressed up as legendary Native American princess Pocahontas and demonstrated Early American grilling techniques.
This cover was given out to attendees of the annual summer get-together. It bears a Settlement of Jamestown single and is combo'd with a facsimile of the 1907 5¢ Jamestown stamp. This stamp, notably, shows Pocahontas with Frederick's trademark flowing white tresses!
It was cancelled on July 7, 2007 - the date of the BBQ - and was postmarked at the South Pasadena Postal Station, just four blocks from Frederick's home.
