Item Description

This listing is for one (1) mint definitive stamp issued by the Polish post office but overprinted for use in the Free City of Danzig (Port Gdansk in Polish.) Listed in Scott as Poland Offices in Danzig #1K31, the stamps is mint, lightly hinged. Please see scan for details.

The German city of Danzig was officially separated from the rest of Germany in 1919 as a result of Germany's loss of World War I. The newly re-constituted nation of Poland was thought to require an outlet to the Baltic Sea, but no cities on the Baltic had a Polish speaking majority at that time. As a result, the city of Danzig as well as some of the surrounding territory was made a "Free City" under the League of Nations. Danzig was essentially an independent city-state with internal self-government but represented internationally by Poland. Poland also had exclusive use of Danzig's port.

Poland operated a few post offices in the territory of the Free City/State, with special stamps issued for use on mail addressed to Poland. Some of these stamps were also used in towns adjacent to Danzig territory.

Please e-mail for quotes on shipping if purchasing more than six items! Uninsured shipments sent at buyer's risk. This means that if you choose to forgo insurance, you agree to release me from any future claim via paypal if it should be lost in the mail.

Payment Options:

Paypal, Money Orders, and Checks payable in the US are accepted. Credit cards accepted through paypal only. Checks must be drawn on a US bank, or I cannot cash them! (I can no longer accept Canadian Postal Money Orders, even those in US dollars-sorry!)

Return Policy:

14 day, money back guarantee, provided the item(s) are sent back in original condition. The 14-day period is defined as follows:

US Bidders: 14 days from the 3rd day after the item is sent.

International: 14 days from the 7th day after the item is sent.
